Paris 2009 part 4

Did a big bike ride yesterday (Monday). Rode out to a small village call Charney. We took it slow and easy, stopping off in the forest for a coffee and soda and then moving forward. We stopped in Charney for an ice tea with peach – not a big fan of ice tea but found myself really enjoying this drink. Out in the farm fields the land was very flat, the sun very warm and the air was beautifully crisp. Everywhere we go we meet very nice people who tell us they love Americans – don’t believe everything you read from the idiotic press and the right wingnuts who would have you believe the French and Europeans don’t like us – they may not like our politics but they are genuinely a great people to be around. Here’s a map of our 50 mile bike route. We may be doing a longer one today, we’ve mapped out another route that starts off from Charney.

That’s it today.

Did a bit of walking around today – went to see the show of William Blake’s etchings at the Petite Palace – David got some great shots of the building – but haven’t processed them yet. Here’s a map of our walk today – click the view larger map link to see all the places we walked to – actually if you click that link and then click satellite at the top of the page you can see street views of our walk – google maps is incredlble. The second map is the route we are thinking of taking on Wednesday or Thursday of this week – as we both want to go visit the place where Jean Cocteau is buried and where Yves Tanguey built one of his largest sculptures. The two map views below that are maps of trips we have taken in the last couple of days on our bikes.

Having an incredible time here. It’s been a bit chillier than expected and didn’t bring enough warm clothes but hey we adapt and get used to it. Am posting photos and movies here for those of you that refuse to join Facebook.

Have done a bit of walking and have bike riding has been very comfortable and relaxed. There are so many great shots to share so we decided to share these with you. I really like posting these shots and movies and would love it if you commented on them. The show that we saw last night at Theatre des Bouffes du Nord with Nouvelle Vague was incredible. The venue was incredible and the sound was great, although it was a bit warm in the building for the opening act – it became very comfortable and we had a really great time.

Here is the google map street view of our apartment.

Wandering the streets came across this cathedral plaza filled with African sculptures – the sculptures and atmostphere mixed well.

I loved how the hand from the sculpture behind was raised above the head
